Text comparison

Compare two versions line by line, with exact spaces and case.

Line changes, with the matching rules visible.

Lines are matched exactly, including case, indentation and spaces. CRLF and CR line endings become LF, so a line-ending-style change alone is not a difference. A final newline is tracked separately; adding one can change the result even when every line matches. An empty input is valid and can represent a new or deleted document.

The comparison uses a longest common subsequence of lines. A replacement appears as removed and added lines; repeated lines can have more than one valid alignment. This is not a word-by-word diff or a patch file. Review the line numbers when repeated content occurs. UTF-8 file reading removes a leading byte-order marker. No whitespace-cleaning or sorting is applied.

Example: changing “Price: 24.00” to “Price: 22.00” produces one removed line and one added line. The complete JSON report includes full line text and both versions’ final-newline flags. Results are not saved by Toolfred.
