Recipe scaler

Scale ingredient amounts to a new serving count, keeping fractions exact.

Use positive integers, decimals or fractions, up to 10,000 servings. Ingredient amounts may also use mixed numbers such as 1 1/2. Units are copied, not converted.

Up to 50 ingredients. For a note such as “to taste,” select Keep unchanged. Fractional eggs or packages need your judgment; we do not round them automatically.

A new serving count, without losing the fractions.

Scale factor = target servings / original servings. Each numeric ingredient amount is multiplied by that factor with exact rational arithmetic. Scaling from two servings to three gives a factor of 3/2: 1 1/2 cups becomes 2 1/4 cups, while 3/4 cup becomes 1 1/8 cups.

Use the unit wording already in your recipe. This tool does not equate cups with grams, infer ingredient density, convert spoon sizes or combine unlike units. A row marked Keep unchanged keeps its amount as a note, such as “to taste.”

The result shows exact mixed numbers and a decimal approximation, rounded to 12 significant digits, when different. Scaling can produce fractional eggs or impractical quantities. Decide how to measure those and check the recipe, pan size and method separately. The text download includes the serving counts and the same limitations.
