Each address expands to eight groups of four hex digits. The short form removes leading zeros, uses lowercase and compresses the longest zero run of at least two groups. Ties use the leftmost run; one zero group is never compressed.
Example: 2001:0DB8:0:0:1:0:0:1 becomes 2001:db8::1:0:0:1. Uses RFC 5952 section 4 rules for hexadecimal addresses. Mixed IPv4 notation and address-type interpretation are outside scope. Neither representation proves that an address is assigned or reachable.
